Michael Cox, speaking for the project team, said the Conservation Board recommends approval and described the accessibility and water-quality goals.
"This project has two primary functional components," Cox said, summarizing the plan to mitigate bacteria presence while improving access down the steep hill and on the water. He also noted local philanthropic support: the Story County Community Foundation provided an impact grant to the project team.
County staff told supervisors that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will fund approximately 75% of the costs associated with the stormwater portion of the work. The board opened a public hearing, received no comments, and approved the motion to adopt the final plans, specifications and authorization to release bids.
Next steps include issuing the bid package and returning to the board with bid results and a recommended contract award once bids have been opened and evaluated.
