City of Danville ends county curbside recycling program; residents must opt into private service

Magistrate Gay informed the fiscal court that the City of Danville will cease providing curbside recycling as part of city services effective July 1. Residents who want continued curbside pickup must sign up directly with Republic Services; Magistrate Gay provided a text number (859-368-1140) for residents to opt in and noted the service is operated locally and materials will continue to be recycled at the county’s recycling center.
Magistrate Gay explained eligible curbside items (cardboard, #1 and #2 plastic bottles, aluminum and steel cans, paper), and noted glass and Styrofoam will continue to require drop-off at the recycling center. Court members discussed communication methods and encouraged putting sign-up details on county and city websites.
The fiscal court did not enact policy changes during the session; county staff and contact information were provided to help residents transition to the new arrangement.
