At the June 23 Northbrook SD 28 board meeting teachers and administrators publicly thanked Dr. Skullis for years of service.
Third-grade teacher Megan Esesterling told the board she has worked with Kelly (Dr. Skullis) for nearly 10 years and that Dr. Skullis is a model of professionalism and "student and family centered in the schools." Board members echoed that appreciation during the superintendent's report.
Dr. Skullis introduced Whitney Fine as the district's new assistant director of student services, who is set to begin July 1. Fine, introduced from her role as an associate principal in another district, said, "I'm really excited to be part of District 28" and emphasized her passion for special education and supporting students, staff and families. The board moved and approved Fine's assistant director contract by roll-call vote.
Staff also updated the board on summer construction: Metobrook requires a storm-trap installation under its parking lot to restore staff parking before school starts; the district received an MWRD permit for Greenbryer storm work and is awaiting the Westmore permit; junior-high design work is underway with bids expected in late fall or early winter. Buildings & Grounds noted that some storm-trap improvements will also help reduce flooding in adjacent neighborhoods.
The board held several contract approvals tied to these projects and reiterated that retainage on the Metobrook gym contract will not be released until punch-list, closeout and training documentation are complete.
