County Administrator (identified in the meeting packet as Mr. Clyburn) told the council he will not request an extension of his contract and that his last day will be June 30. He thanked the council and staff and said he will serve the remainder of his term.
Council moved and unanimously approved a motion to honor the administrator's request not to extend the contract beyond June 30. Council then moved, seconded and unanimously approved naming Doris Sumpter as interim county administrator effective July 1, with details to be set out in an additional contract.
"I would ask council not to consider extension of my contract," the administrator said, adding that he would serve the full term and that he believes the county is positioned well for leadership transition. Council members thanked him for his service; several members offered personal remarks of appreciation.
The council recorded the personnel actions in open session following an executive-session discussion about the contract; no votes were taken while in executive session, and the non-renewal and interim appointment were acted on in open session.
