The city said each recipient will receive $1,500. Fam Church told the commission it operates a weekly food distribution that currently serves roughly 250 families each week; the Friends of the Mulberry Library said the donation will support library programs; Greater Hope Church described meal distributions and upcoming sanctuary construction; school groups such as the Malberry High School Band Parent Association and the Mulberry High School Choir said the money helps with band camp, banquet and trips.
“This helps our children, our veterans, our community — arts and sports programs,” staff said when presenting the awards. Several nonprofit representatives said demand is growing, and that they sometimes must turn families away because supplies run out.
City leaders thanked chili cook‑off organizers and volunteers and encouraged continued community engagement. The awards were presented during the regular meeting; recipients made brief remarks about how the funds will be used.
