Bernalillo staff report toys giveaway, contest winners and fire department year‑end achievements

Christina Jones, Community Development Director, said the Town’s Toys with Santa event served 385 children across 176 families and accommodated roughly 25 additional drop‑in children; she listed winners of the Brighton Bernalillo commercial and residential contest and said results are posted on social media. Ida Fierro, Town Administrator, and Troy Martinez, Public Works Director, reported staffing coverage over the holidays.
Fire Chief Bonnett gave a broad year‑end summary: the Town participated in the startup of a new Sandoval County dispatch center, deployed swift‑water and wildland teams to incidents during the summer, received and placed a new structural engine into service, completed the "Baby Box" project and initiated a Fire Chaplain program and a Fire Buddies chapter focused on supporting children with cancer through a national charity. Chief Bonnett also said the Town’s ISO rating improved from a 5 to a 3, which he said could lead to lower homeowner insurance rates.
Mayor Torres closed the meeting by thanking staff across departments for holiday events and services and noting the Town completed an exit conference for the audit, which will be released by the State Auditor when available.
