Richmond Conservation Commission unanimously recommends Trevian Stanganger for appointment

The Richmond Conservation Commission on March 10 unanimously voted to recommend that the select board appoint Trevian Stanganger to a seat that would expire in May 2027.

Trevian Stanganger introduced himself to the commission, saying, “My name is Trevian Stanganger. Been living up on the hill up here… I’ve been teaching full-time environmental studies at St. Mike’s for eight years now,” and describing work leading student tree plantings, watershed studies and restoration projects. Commissioners asked about his project interests and capacity; Stanganger said he prefers to lead one larger seasonal project and to engage students and community volunteers.

Commissioners praised Stanganger’s experience with hands-on restoration and community engagement and discussed next steps for the formal appointment. The commission’s recommendation will be transmitted to town staff (Town Manager Josh) for placement on a future select board agenda; the select board makes official appointments. The chair said applicants are sometimes asked at the select board whether they can attend regular meetings and complete required ethics training.

The recommendation was made by motion and approved in a roll-call vote recorded during the meeting. The commission noted that if the appointment is scheduled at an out-of-cycle select board meeting, the applicant’s presence by Zoom or in person is sometimes helpful.

The commission also encouraged Stanganger to participate in upcoming commission projects, including neighborhood plantings and invasive-plant testing plots, and offered to support coordination with local nurseries and partners.
