Alton council approves temporary road for mayor’s house move, discusses septic connections and moves October meeting

The Alton City Council granted permission on Sept. 10 for Mayor Dan Vande Griend to have a temporary road installed through the ditch on Alton Drive South to move a house into Cambier Addition, with all installation and removal costs to be paid by the mayor. The motion to approve the temporary road was made by Jorgensen and seconded by Frederes; the minutes record the vote as Ayes 5.
The council also agreed by consensus to move the October meeting date to Oct. 15.
City Clerk/Administrator Dale Oltmans reported that some property owners in Aalbers Second Addition requested permission to use septic tanks rather than connecting to the city sewer main. The council noted existing ordinances require connection to a sewer main if a property line is within 100 feet of the sewer main and that the affected properties lie more than 100 feet from the sewer main; no action was taken because current ordinances address the issue.
