Doraville panel reviews Bella Blessings pet-supply kiosks; artist unveils design for April 10 installation

Doraville commissioners reviewed the Bella Blessing Box initiative, a partnership with Bella Blessings, Inc., to install four pet-supply kiosks that will provide free food and pet items to residents. Staff said the first box will be inaugurated on April 10 at 11:30 a.m.
The presenting artist described a design approach that draws on folk-art imagery and bright versions of the city color scheme. The artist said she plans to use Cricut-cut stencils to speed production and allow multiple volunteers to work on the box simultaneously. "I wanted to make it pet related obviously," the artist said, noting the design includes common animals (cat, dog, bird) and a colorful, multicultural motif.
Staff provided box dimensions (approximately 32 in by 27 in by 16 in — cabinet-sized) and described the box as laminated wood; the artist asked staff to confirm materials and paint type to select an appropriate base coat. Commissioners emphasized having different designs for each box so multiple artists can participate and discussed logistics for mounting and siting the kiosks around the city.
Staff credited Warren Simmons and Jen Simmons for organizing the nonprofit behind the boxes and said Warren Simmons has been active in advocating for animals as a city councilman. The commission asked staff to confirm materials and finalize the installation plan so the artist could meet the April 10 deadline.
