New baler running; board to re-advertise bailer sale after no bids, staff explores limited hazardous-waste day

The board heard operations reports on equipment and local hazardous-waste disposal and voted to re-advertise a previously listed bailer after receiving no bids.

Freddy, a staff member responsible for site operations, said the new baler is installed, running and being tested; contamination levels were slightly higher but remained below thresholds. "The new baler, we've got it up and running," Freddy said, and staff have been focusing on setup and training. He noted heavy visitor traffic at the Casey Road site and said repairs to the baler area floor, forklift work and associated labor will be handled soon.

Sherry Seibert of the Planning and Acquisitions Ministry told the board that the sealed-bid notice for the bailer was published May 28 and again on June 4 and that Freddy personally emailed the notice to interested parties, but the board received no bids. Sherry asked for permission to re-advertise the machine and to personally call prospective bidders, including contacts among other solid-waste district superintendents. The board adopted a motion to re-advertise and allow targeted outreach; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.

A staff member also said they met with Intec Environmental of Evansville to explore holding a limited hazardous-waste collection day concentrating on paint and aerosol-can disposal. The staff member said Intec recycles materials and described their process: "They actually recycle all of it," the staff member reported, saying the company extracts material from aerosol cans and repurposes it as a fuel additive. The board agreed to continue discussions with Intec to clarify costs and availability for holding a smaller event this year.

The board agreed to re-advertise the bailer and to pursue follow-up meetings with Intec; staff said they expect to bring more details, including any contractor addenda and cost breakdowns, to a subsequent meeting.
