Resident urges action on speeding on Highland Avenue; city pledges follow-up

During the public‑comment portion of the June 18 meeting, resident Greg Lee (939½ Highland) told the commission he has persistent problems with speeding on Highland Avenue, criticized the size of the posted 15 mph speed limit signs and asked why the city had not corrected the problem.
"Nobody deals with it," Lee said, adding that delivery drivers and local workers routinely exceed the posted limit. Mayor Freaney responded that staff would look into the concern and the city manager would follow up with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. The city manager confirmed staff would take notes and investigate options for enforcement and signage improvements.
No formal direction or vote was taken; commissioners asked staff to follow up with both the sheriff’s office and internal departments and report back.
