Board approves $95,000 for classroom interactive TVs during summer construction

The Ft. Zumwalt R-II board approved staff’s recommendation to replace aging projectors with interactive televisions in 44 classrooms where summer construction will require pulling down ceilings and electrical lines.
JB, the staff presenter, said that because construction crews will already need to pull electrical lines, the incremental cost of interactive TVs is reasonable. He said the district has used the same interactive TVs in elementary and some middle schools and that the total cost for the 44 units is just over $95,000. Staff told the board that the district already schedules teacher training for affected classrooms in August.
During discussion a board member asked whether keeping the projectors in inventory was an option; staff said usable projectors would be kept in inventory and unusable units would be sold as surplus. Staff estimated running new electrical lines would cost roughly $800–$1,000 per room, while a replacement TV costs a bit more than $2,000 but offers interactive and wireless connectivity.
The board approved the interactive TV recommendation by voice vote.
