Sheldon Shavan, the library auditor, told the Carmel Public Library Board of Trustees that the independent audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, returned an unmodified opinion — what he called “a clean audit.” The report flagged no material weaknesses, noted an unassigned fund balance of $1.129 million and a total fund balance of about $1.52 million, and described the library as a blended component of the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The audit, Shavan said, follows risk‑based GAAS procedures and includes required GASB disclosures; he emphasized the report’s “emphasis of a matter” noting the library’s status as a component unit of the city. Trustees asked no substantive follow-ups and accepted the auditor’s presentation.
In business business that followed, the board approved routine items by roll-call votes. Trustees accepted the April 29, 2026 special meeting minutes and approved the April–May check register. The board also approved a request to transfer $7,900 from the oral history program account to the local history archival supplies account to buy archival housings and related materials for a donated collection of photos. The motion to adopt the 2026–27 operating budget — described as balanced with only minor revisions since April — also passed unanimously.
