On June 23 Douglas County commissioners approved a $60,000 contract with Manna Resource Center to deliver temporary assistance to needy families (TANF) case management and related support services.
Erin Johnson, assistant director of Human Services, said the TANF program provides both cash assistance and flexible funding to partner organizations that offer case management, mental‑health referrals and resource navigation. Johnson said the county has worked with Manna since 2018 to meet community needs where residents are comfortable receiving help.
Erin White, executive director of Manna Resource Center, described the organization’s model — resource navigation, coaching, mental health connections and community engagement — and shared a client story about a family who moved from homelessness to stable housing and employment with Manna’s assistance.
Commissioner questions focused on the organization’s faith‑based affiliation. White said Manna is a Christian organization affiliated with a church campus but emphasized that services are open to everyone. “We will serve anybody in the community and meet them where they are regardless of their circumstances, background,” she said, and added that no spiritual programming is imposed unless a client chooses it.
The vote: Commissioner Layden moved to approve the $60,000 contract; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote.
What’s next: Human Services will continue to partner with Manna for TANF‑funded case management and to coordinate related county resources.
