Douglas County approves design contract for Colorado Boulevard bike‑ped bridge over C‑470

The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners voted June 23 to approve a consultant contract with RS&H for design work on a separated bike‑and‑pedestrian bridge spanning C‑470 on Colorado Boulevard.
Roland Bundy, public works capital improvements project manager, told the board that the contract is not to exceed $980,925.50 for the design phase. The county also secured federal funding for the design phase in the amount of $550,000, Bundy said; an intergovernmental agreement with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) for that federal funding was approved by the board in August 2025, he added.
The project purpose is to improve safety by creating a separate crossing for pedestrians and cyclists where the existing roadway bridge has a narrow sidewalk on only one side. Bundy said the design work is expected to be completed in late 2027 or early 2028; construction depends on securing additional local, state and federal partners and an estimated construction cost of about $6 million.
The vote: Commissioner Van Winkle moved to approve the contract for services with RS&H; a second was recorded and the board approved the contract by voice vote.
Next steps: The county will proceed with design under RS&H and continue to pursue construction funding partnerships for the estimated multi‑million‑dollar construction phase.
