Commission approves Berkshire Hills Regional School District school project with added stormwater and testing conditions

Representatives for the Berkshire Hills Regional School District presented plans on May 27 for a new school building at 600 Stockbridge Road that emphasize upgraded stormwater management and erosion controls. The Conservation Commission voted unanimously to approve the Notice of Intent with standard and specified special conditions.
The applicants outlined a system of infiltration and treatment measures intended to reduce discharge and sedimentation, and proposed replanting native vegetation in the buffer zone. Commissioners and the consulting team discussed DEP special conditions and additional soil testing. The commission required an updated final Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, soil test pits/logs for each chamber system to demonstrate adequate infiltration at the start of construction, and a minimum of two soil pit tests/logs at the existing building once it is demolished.
The commission also required that the Conservation Agent inspect the site prior to construction and that the time period to complete work be extended from the standard three years to five years; Commissioner Andy Didio agreed to review the final plan. The public hearing was closed and the motion to approve the Notice of Intent with the stated conditions passed by roll call vote, 7-0.
