Commissioners weigh generator, HVAC and pest-control quotes and jail equipment repairs

Craig said the Milan EMS generator is running but the display/motherboard is dead; estimated costs for replacement components ranged from a few thousand dollars up to full replacement in the $8,000 range. He recommended monthly load runs to preserve performance and proposed asking Milan EMS to include replacement in next year’s budget unless the unit fails.
For building controls, Craig presented a $4,150 one-year preventive-maintenance quote from Jackson Systems Controls for courthouse controls; Trane would still be required for certain backend work and could generate separate charges if needed. Commissioners asked for clarity on the scope and costs.
On pest control, staff presented yearly quotes covering courthouse, annex, jail and two EMS buildings: Cardinal Pest Control at roughly $11,270/year and Plunkett’s at about $8,280/year (Plunkett’s quoted $200/month for the jail). Commissioners asked staff to request monthly, as‑needed pricing for an apples‑to‑apples comparison, to obtain MSDSs and to check cancellation/cure clauses for the jail contract.
Mike (jail maintenance) presented a $3,500 seal-coating quote (A&J Seal Coating) and advised that other bidders recommended full replacement. He also reported preliminary laundry replacement pricing: dryer $5,271.70, washer $11,216, combined replacement $20,251.75; commissioners asked for two or three additional quotes, warranty comparisons and a safety assessment because current machines are circa 2001–2002 and have overheated.
No final contract awards were made; commissioners directed staff to gather more detailed, comparable quotes and warranty information and to investigate potential budget transfers for urgent repairs.
