Rushford Village council approves final comprehensive plan for printing, asks councilors to pick goals

The Rushford Village City Council approved the revised final draft of the city’s comprehensive plan and authorized printing four bound copies at its July 15, 2025 meeting. The motion to approve printing was made by Councilmember Rick Ruberg and seconded by Councilmember Mike Ebner and carried.
Jayme Longmire, representing CEDA, presented the final draft and asked the council to identify two or three goals at the Aug. 5 meeting that the council would like CEDA to pursue. Longmire said CEDA’s contract covers 16 hours per month and recommended the council narrow focus to a single priority to allow meaningful work within that limit. The council approved distributing one printed copy to the Rushford Library and posting the plan on the city website.
Longmire outlined options if the council is not ready to fund or pursue goals immediately: end the current CEDA contract with 30 days’ written notice, refrain from renewing for 2026, or retain CEDA on a case-by-case basis (which she said tends to be more expensive). Councilmembers discussed the difficulty of using CEDA resources given Rushford Village’s small size and unique needs and agreed to review and bring goal options to the August meeting.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Aug. 5, 2025; the council will consider the goals Longmire recommended and may provide a work plan for CEDA if it elects to continue the contract.
