Town Planner David Sharples told the board that the applicant asked to be placed on the August 28 meeting because the zoning relief that underpins the planning submission remains unresolved.
Sharples said the planning board historically waits for zoning relief before granting approvals: "In the decade I've been here, has never granted anything subject to zoning relief; it's always gotten the zoning relief and come here," he said, noting the practical risk that an applicant could seek planning approval only to have zoning relief denied later. The board discussed scheduling options and agreed to table the application to the August meeting to allow the zoning process to conclude.
Why it matters: Planning approvals that depend on concurrent or pending zoning decisions can lead to procedural complications and rework; tabling preserves the board’s ability to act only after relevant zoning relief is final.
