St. Bernard board announces retirements, names three new school administrators

The St. Bernard Parish School Board used its June 23 meeting to note several retirements and to announce three administrative appointments for the coming year.
In a personnel update, Ms. Alvarez told board members the district recorded retirements and several resignations and that recruitment continues. She said many applicants are passing the Praxis exam and that an alternate-certification (alt-cert) cohort will begin Monday to help fill vacancies. Ms. Alvarez said bus-driver applicants are being forwarded to Mr. Tucker for hiring follow-up.
The board publicly thanked retiring staff members named in the meeting, including Coach William Stockton, Cynthia Guerra (A. L. Landry Elementary special-education teacher) and Robert Strauss (Trist Elementary teacher). Board members offered gratitude for long service during the meeting.
Separately, the board announced three appointments: Brittany Fields as assistant principal at Gauthier Elementary School; Alene Holman as the district’s nurse administrator (she has 23 years in nursing and 16 years as a school nurse in the district); and Lana Reyes as a literacy mentor, currently a counselor at Joseph Davies Elementary School with eight years’ experience. The appointments were announced and followed by applause; the transcript does not record a formal roll-call vote for the appointments.
“While we do have some vacancies left, we are optimistic that we will have those filled,” Ms. Alvarez said, noting active recruitment and training programs the district will use to fill openings.
Board members again extended congratulations to the retirees and to the newly announced appointees.
