Melinda Holland, the district's food service director, told the board the grant covers $1,000 for transportation fuel, $500 for community advertising and outreach, and $5,670 to pay an additional staff member (35 hours/week) who will be drawn from current staff. "Families will be able to pick up three free breakfasts and three free lunches for each eligible child twice each week at any of the five locations starting June 29th and running through August 7th," Holland said. She noted that federal policy changes permit parents or guardians to pick up meals to take home rather than requiring on‑site consumption.
Board members asked whether income guidelines were required; Holland replied no — children under 18 in the community may pick up free meals regardless of enrollment. The board moved to accept the grant, seconded and approved on voice vote; numeric tallies were not recorded in the transcript.
