Dover — Delaware Technical Community College's men's lacrosse team was honored on the House floor June 10 after claiming the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 19 championship.
A lawmaker introduced the team and coaching staff, praising the student-athletes for balancing academics, work and sport; the presenter noted the roster includes students from all three Delaware counties and described a team GPA above 3.0. The chamber followed a tradition of recording names and positions for the official record.
"We couldn't be more proud," Dan Yerrick, the team's head coach, said, thanking players, the coaching staff and the athletics department for their work. A member of the coaching staff and several players offered brief remarks acknowledging the community support that helped the team through injury and rigors of the season.
Members applauded as players and coaches were acknowledged individually for the record. The House then recessed for committee meetings later in the day.
What happens next: The presentation was ceremonial; the names and positions of the players and coaches will be entered into the House record as part of the chamber's recognition tradition.
