Garrett County commissioners approve USDA equipment grant, $1 property sale and adopt 10-year solid waste plan

Garrett County commissioners on Nov. 19 unanimously approved several administrative and capital measures, including a USDA Rural Development grant to help fund a vacuum excavator truck, the sale of county property to the Town of Grantsville for $1, road-name changes and formal adoption of the county's Ten-Year Solid Waste Management Plan.
The board approved Resolution 2024-11-19 to purchase a Vacuum Excavator Truck with a total cost of $700,000, of which the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program will provide $525,000 and the county will pay the remaining $175,000. The motion was made by Commissioner Ryan S. Savage, seconded by Commissioner S. Larry Tichnell, and made unanimous by Chairman Paul C. Edwards.
The board also approved Resolution 2024-16 to sell county property at 176 Spring Glade Road, Grantsville, to the Town of Grantsville for the sum of $1. That measure passed on a motion by Commissioner Tichnell, seconded by Commissioner Savage, and was recorded as unanimous.
Siera Wigfield, senior planner in the Department of Community Development, requested several road-name changes and additions. The board adopted Road Name Resolution RN24'02 to implement the changes presented by staff.
During the meeting the board opened a public hearing on the proposed Ten-Year Solid Waste Management Plan for Garrett County (2024'2034). No members of the public spoke during the hearing. The board then adopted Resolution 2024-17, formally approving the Ten-Year Solid Waste Management Plan by unanimous vote (motion by Commissioner Tichnell, seconded by Commissioner Savage).
The meeting record shows all votes on these items were unanimous. The board also approved the meeting agenda and the Nov. 4, 2024 meeting minutes earlier in the session.
The board announced its next public meeting for Dec. 2, 2024, at 4 p.m. at the Garrett County Courthouse.
