Hudson River Park Trust previews summer lineup: Juneteenth, salsa nights, Broadway by the Boardwalk

Jacqueline Leang, community outreach coordinator for Hudson River Park Trust, used the board’s public session to preview the park’s summer schedule and public programs.
Leang highlighted Juneteenth programming on Pier 45 focused on Black American dance and cultural programming; sunset salsa sessions will return on Pier 76 beginning July 9; and the Broadway by the Boardwalk concert series will begin July 13 in Clinton Cove with named performers in the announced lineup. Leang also described educational wet-lab visits (tuesdays, wednesdays, saturdays and sundays) where visitors can see species such as oyster toadfish and fiddler crabs, and noted recurring “big city fishing” programs for children age five and up.
Leang said the Trust is preparing to manage large crowds for Pride (the last Sunday in June) and for July 4th events that include the International Tall Ships Parade and an aerial review, and that the Trust is awaiting additional information about restrictions and access for those large events. She told attendees that the Trust brought printed summer program schedules for the board.
Why it matters: The Trust’s event schedule and crowd-management plans affect neighborhood access, park operations and public-safety planning for large summer gatherings. Community Board coordination can help the Trust communicate closures, staging and post-event restoration plans to residents and local businesses.
Leang’s remarks were delivered during the board’s public session and were provided as an informational update rather than an item for board action.
