Gilmer proclaims April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and notes Child Abuse Awareness Month

During the March 24 meeting Mayor Tim Marshall read a proclamation designating April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and presented it to Kristi Bucknell of the Women’s Center of East Texas. He also announced that April will be observed as Child Abuse Awareness Month and that the city will allow blue ribbons to be tied to light poles around the square in recognition.
Kristi Bucknell, representing the Women’s Center of ETX, received the proclamation; the minutes record the presentation but do not include remarks from Bucknell.
The council later approved the proclamation by motion; the minutes record the motion by Mayor Tim Marshall, seconded by Councilmember Jerry Webb, with a 6–0 vote in favor. No public comments were recorded on the proclamations.
