Gilmer council leaves late councilmember’s seat vacant, confirms parks advisory board nominees

The Gilmer City Council on Feb. 10 voted to leave the council seat formerly held by Michael Chevalier vacant. Mayor Tim Marshall moved to leave the seat vacant and Councilmember Jasmine McDowell seconded; the motion carried 5–0.
The council also approved nominations to the Parks Advisory Board for three‑year terms (2026–2029): Willie Grant, John McWhorter, Ben Dodd, Emma Smith, Todd Stansbury and Steve Stewart; the council removed Lucy Winn from the board and left that seat vacant until a replacement is found. Mayor Tim Marshall abstained from the parks‑board vote; the motion to accept the Parks Advisory Board recommendations passed 4–0 (Herrmann motion; Williams second).
Council did not discuss timelines for filling the Chevalier seat or public‑notice plans for the vacant parks seat in the meeting minutes. The council adjourned shortly after reconvening from executive session on the city manager’s evaluation, at which no action was taken.
