The City of Gilmer on Jan. 27 approved a voluntary physical fitness incentive program for police department employees that awards earned personal-holiday days to participants.
Police Chief Lana Davidson and Deputy Police Chief Andy Dube described a course developed at the gun range and said the program will include adjusted elements for non-sworn employees. The program is voluntary; employees who complete the course will receive additional personal holidays they can use during the calendar year.
Council approved the program unanimously. City staff said the program will run at the beginning of the year so participants have the full calendar year to use any earned benefits.
