Gilmer Council calls May 2 elections for city seats and an EDC special election

Councilmember Brian Williams moved to approve the Order of a General Election and Councilmember Jasmine McDowell seconded; the motion passed 5–0. The council also accepted the EDC Board’s recommendation to place a Special Election on the May 2 ballot; that motion passed 5–0. Mayor Pro‑Tem Pete Herrmann introduced Ordinance 26‑011, which sets election dates, early voting provisions, polling locations and compensation for election workers; the ordinance passed unanimously.
The council authorized the mayor to sign joint‑election agreements with the Gilmer Independent School District and the Upshur County Elections Office so the city elections run concurrently with other local ballots; the authorization passed 5–0. Councilmembers did not record additional debate on candidate filing procedures or ballot language at the meeting.
Other items related to the May 2 election were handled elsewhere on the agenda: the council separately approved a ballot proposition to change local sales‑tax structure (Ordinance 26‑012) to be placed on the same May 2 special election.
