Coralville sets public hearing on FY2027 property tax levy; current estimate $14.51

The Coralville City Council adopted Resolution No. 2026-19 on Feb. 24 to set a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 property tax levy for 6:00 p.m. on March 24, 2026.
Finance Director Ann Hester told the council that final levy numbers must be submitted to the state by 4:00 p.m. on March 5. The current projection for Coralville’s maximum levy is $14.51 for FY2027 compared with $14.53 for FY2026. Johnson County will mail notices to residents with the proposed levy amount ahead of the March 24 hearing.
Councilmembers discussed the mechanics of adjusting levy components under state law; City Administrator Kelly Hayworth noted that only the transit levy is adjustable under current law and that any change discussions will continue in upcoming work sessions.
Resolution No. 2026-19 was introduced by Rich Vogelzang, seconded by Mike Knudson, and declared adopted by roll call.
A separate public hearing on the property tax levy will be held at a Coralville City Council Special Meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. on March 24, 2026, per statutory requirements.
