The Rye Recycling Education Committee discussed outreach to local schools on Feb. 18, 2025, assigning Alex to contact Laura Brown at the Rye Public Library about a possible student contest. The contest concept would ask students to find a product or manufacturer and write to ask for reduced or different packaging.
Committee members discussed coordinating with Rye Junior High (RJH) and Rye Elementary School. Alex will follow up with RJH contact Ann Gilbert and check whether Mr. Fox or Paige will lead curriculum or presentation work on fast fashion; Pam will follow up on contacts and logistics. Eileen Murphy indicated she is interested in supporting the effort.
The committee also discussed Terracycle and other school-targeted recycling/pilot programs for RJH; Terracycle bin research was listed among open items for follow-up. The committee did not finalize funding or a firm timeline during the meeting; members recorded action items to report progress at the next meeting.
