Rye committee reviews recycling data, sets outreach and school contest tasks

The Rye Recycling Education Committee met Feb. 18, 2025, at the Rye Public Library and reviewed its most recent recycling statistics while assigning a set of outreach and research tasks to members. Pam compiled data from town sources and the New Hampshire Materials Management/recycling authority and will add 2024 figures when they become available.
Pam told the committee she consolidated information from Rick, the Town Report and NRRA into a spreadsheet and will update it with 2024 data when ready. The committee tasked Pam to continue gathering recycling statistics and to make that dataset available to members for planning and reporting.
To raise public awareness, members agreed to staff an informational table at the upcoming election; Alex volunteered to arrive at 8 a.m. to set up and the group will circulate a sign-up sheet for volunteer shifts. Committee members also agreed to continue posting recycling tips and event notices on social media, a responsibility assigned to Casey and supported by Pam.
The meeting produced several research assignments intended to inform future recommendations: compare costs and service options between Turnkey Landfill and WIN Waste; clarify what the harbor WIN Waste bin accepts; investigate Terracycle bin programs for Rye Junior High (RJH); and plan a visit to the Lee transfer station to observe how that town operates its swap shop. These tasks were recorded as open action items for follow-up.
The committee scheduled its next meeting for March 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rye Public Library.
