Residents raise housing-cost concerns; staff outlines homebuyer and repair assistance

Steve Dill, a Kettering resident, said property values in his neighborhood have doubled according to Zillow and asked how the city can help minimize rising housing costs and whether a down-payment assistance program administered through the Ownership Center of Greater Dayton remains available. The manager’s office replied that the city works with county community-development partners to provide homebuyer assistance and major-repair programs for qualifying households and that staff can provide links and application guidance after the meeting.
Council also heard other personal introductions and community-support remarks during public comment but did not take any formal action on housing strategies at the June 23 meeting. Staff said the city continues to pursue housing capacity increases and coordinates with county and state partners to seek additional resources.
