Kettering City Council on June 23 authorized the city manager to contract with Motorola Solutions Inc. for console-computer upgrades and implementation services needed for the city's Next Generation 911 dispatch conversion, city staff said.
City staff described the purchase as necessary to comply with Ohio’s Next Generation 911 program. The resolution amended a prior authorization (Resolution 11468-26) and listed an estimated net project cost of $392,172. Staff told council the total would be split with $196,958 from 911 funds, $78,214 from the fire department general fund, and $117,000 from the dispatch division general fund. Miami Township, which receives dispatch services from Kettering, will reimburse the city $117,000 over five years for its share.
Staff said the city originally planned the upgrade for 2027 with a higher total estimate of about $542,172 but can save roughly $150,000 by purchasing all upgrades in 2026. Council moved and seconded the resolution and approved it on roll call with the members present voting yes.
Council members emphasized that the work is critical to meeting state requirements for emergency communications and to maintain service continuity for the region. The clerk will complete contracting steps and the finance department will reflect the appropriation changes in forthcoming budget documents.
