Councilmember Deena J. Lewis presented a legal services agreement with Krieg DeVault LLP on Dec. 15 asking the county to fund organizational and operational startup work for a proposed Regional Sewer District.
Lewis said the engagement would include guiding a board of directors through organization, establishing operational procedures, assisting with meetings and reviewing professional engagement proposals and advocacy services with the State of Indiana executive branch and the Indiana General Assembly. The county’s obligation was described as $45,000 for an interim cap covering Jan. 1 through March 30, 2026.
The council reached consensus to advertise an additional appropriation from the LIT-ED fund in the amount of $45,000; the advertisement will bring the appropriation back for formal consideration at the Dec. 29, 2025 meeting. Advertising an appropriation is a public-notice step that allows the item to appear on a future agenda for final action.
No final appropriation or contract award was recorded in the meeting minutes; council members did not vote on the legal-services agreement on Dec. 15.
