Council to advertise $400,000 CumCap equipment request; Community Crossings match will reduce 2026 hot‑mix miles

Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken told the Dubois County Council he will request $400,000 from the Cum Cap Fund to purchase highway equipment and dump trucks; the council agreed to advertise the request for its next meeting rather than act immediately.
Lueken also outlined Community Crossings grant results. In 2025 contractor bids totaled $2,166,938, of which the state provided $1,625,203 and the county matched $541,000. For 2026, expected bids are roughly $1,128,000 with a $902,000 state share and a $225,000 county match. Lueken said that reduced funding means less hot mix will be placed in 2026—about 7–8 miles of road resurfacing compared with a larger mileage in 2025.
No formal appropriation for the Cum Cap request occurred at the Jan. 21 meeting; the council will consider advertised language at a future meeting.
