Rushford Village council weighs Ekren Road repairs as truck stays in for repeated Freightliner fixes

Councilmembers on March 17 addressed persistent maintenance needs on Ekren Road and a repeatedly repaired Freightliner truck that has been at Syversons for two weeks.
Councilmember Mike Ebner (reporting for absent Public Works Supervisor Darrin Dessner) said crew work with the grader has exposed gravel by breaking up ice, but several stretches — particularly shaded hilly areas — will likely need rock placed. A resident, Ryan Oian, was present to discuss maintenance and rock application on Ekren Road.
Ebner said the F550 used for plowing struggles with front-end sliding and currently runs with tire chains; the council discussed acquiring different tires before next winter. The council noted that Arendahl, Norway and Money Creek townships have provided mutual-aid plowing on connecting township roads.
On fleet issues, Ebner reported the Freightliner has been in for the same repair multiple times and has been at Syversons two weeks. Councilmember Robert Hart asked whether commercial vehicles fall under lemon-law protections; City Attorney Joseph O’Koren said he would investigate that legal question. Ebner suggested the council consider purchasing a backup truck by fall; O’Koren suggested checking listings on the League of Minnesota Cities equipment-for-sale pages. Jayme Longmire (CEDA) offered to connect the council with a contact who could discuss low-interest loan options.
Clerk Mary Miner said she would call Dan Sveen to ask about spreading rock and, if unsuccessful, contact Bruening Rock to inquire about that service. The council did not take a final vote on capital purchases but recorded these follow-up directions.
