Dubois County schedules paving and bridge work, approves ADA contract addendum

Dubois County Commissioners received a comprehensive highway update Feb. 17 that included paving, bridge replacements and a contract change for the county ADA Transition Plan.
Highway Engineer Levi Leffert said the CCMG 2026-01 paving project has met INDOT documentation requirements and a purchase order issued; paving on Club Road, 550 W and St. Anthony Road N is scheduled to begin on or after June 1, 2026. Leffert also reported that Bridge 116 (CR 820 E, 0.8 miles north of Schnellville Road) was closed Feb. 9 for beam and deck replacement and crews are ahead of schedule, with the deck expected to be poured later in the week and the bridge targeted to reopen to traffic by the first week of March; a separate one-day closure will be required later for asphalt approaches.
The board approved Lochmueller Agreement Addendum #1, which reduces the county's ADA Transition Plan contract from $50,000 to a not-to-exceed $40,000 after Lochmueller engaged an architectural firm at lower cost and reassigned select tasks; the overall scope remains substantially the same.
Leffert outlined upcoming bridge work: Bridge 78 (CR 600 W over the Patoka River) bids will be opened March 2; the project will require a full road closure of approximately 60 days once a contractor is selected. Bridges 107 (St. Anthony Road N) and 240 (St. Anthony Road W) were included in American Structure Point's 2024 deck evaluations and will receive a 1.5-inch concrete deck overlay following milling and hydro demolition; Leffert will prepare plans and contract documents with quotes to be opened in March. SJCA began bridge inspections Feb. 16, 2026.
Leffert also noted a scheduled 20-minute presentation by Slater Rush of Vialytics on March 2 that will demonstrate an AI-driven roadway management system to support maintenance planning and repair prioritization. Separately, Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken told the board that crack sealing was completed Feb. 11, and the department received AE-90 to perform dura-patching; the board reached consensus to submit a bid on a self-propelled chipper and Lueken reported continued difficulty working with Frontier Telephone over lines in ditches and collection agency contacts.
Next steps: bids and quotes in March for bridge projects, the Lochmueller addendum will be implemented under the reduced not-to-exceed amount, and the Vialytics presentation will be provided at the March 2 meeting.
