Dubois County commissioners create two deputy sheriff positions pending County Council funding

The Dubois County Board of Commissioners voted Feb. 17 to create two deputy sheriff positions, following a presentation of data by Sheriff Tom Kleinhelter showing a need for additional road deputies during the noon-to-midnight shift.
Commissioner Chad A. Blessinger opened discussion on formalizing the two positions; Kleinhelter said the deputies would help alleviate calls and allow for more proactive policing during the identified shift. After reviewing the supporting data, the commissioners agreed a need exists.
A motion to create the two deputy positions, contingent on funding by the County Council, was made, seconded, and carried unanimously. The board set the wage classification for the positions as MPOLE II. The motion specifies creation of the positions but funding and hiring remain subject to County Council budget action.
Next procedural steps include referral to the County Council for funding approval and any related personnel-processing actions by county Human Resources and the Sheriff’s Office.
