Dubois County approves $1 million INDOT Community Crossings paving contract and schedules culvert closure

Highway Engineer Levi Leffert told the Dubois County Commissioners on Jan. 5, 2026, that the county had received an INDOT contract for a $1,000,000 Community Crossings (CCMG 2026-01) grant to fund paving work on Club Road, St. Anthony Road N and 550 W. The commissioners approved the contract and granted permission for a county representative to sign the document; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
Leffert said the CCMG projects were advertised for bidding (advertised Dec. 30, 2025 and to be advertised again Jan. 6, 2026). Sealed bids will be accepted until 9:00 a.m. EST on Jan. 20, 2026, and will be opened publicly. He also announced that St. Anthony Road N would be closed beginning Jan. 5 for installation of a precast concrete box culvert approximately 0.6 miles north of Santine Road and is anticipated to reopen on Jan. 9, 2026.
Leffert noted an upcoming replacement project for beams and the deck on Bridge 116 on CR 820E and said he has an interview with the INDOT scoring committee on Jan. 6, 2026, for a federal Bridge Safety Improvement Project grant that could award up to $3,789,000 to add guardrails and end treatments to county bridges. The commissioners also permitted Leffert to attend the National Association of County Engineers conference in Arlington, Texas, April 12–15, 2026; he said he received a $2,000 scholarship to represent Indiana.
The board’s vote to approve the INDOT contract clears the way for solicitation of bids; the bid-opening is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026. The county will proceed with the culvert installation during the announced closure window and will report additional scheduling for bridge replacement projects as details are finalized.
