Commissioners heard a briefing on recent talks with Marian University about a potential local university presence.
Jeremy Raver reported a meeting with Marian University and other stakeholders reviewing a phase‑one feasibility study. The group is considering a narrower phase‑two that would focus on a pro forma and the financials rather than a full deep dive. Raver said Marian approached the city because of an existing relationship with Ivy Tech (a two‑plus‑two program) and because Marian’s health‑care program aligns with the region’s job market.
Staff noted the Economic Development Commission funded phase one of the work with $75,000. Commissioners said they remain open to other university partners if discussions with Marian do not progress but emphasized that the existing Ivy Tech relationship made Marian a logical first option.
No formal decisions were made; staff and the EDC will continue discussions and provide additional financial analysis as requested by commissioners.
