At the Polk County Board of County Commissioners meeting July 2 in Osceola, Highway Superintendent Theis reported that crews have repaired damage to 138th Road but a small bridge on 124th Road near Polk remains in need of repair. Superintendent Theis told the board materials for the bridge repair are on hand, but crews have been unable to complete the work because wet weather conditions are preventing safe, effective construction.
The minutes record Theis also raised concerns about drainage in certain areas where rainwater accumulation is becoming a problem. Separately, Chief Probation Officer Carrie Rodriguez postponed her scheduled appointment with the board after overnight flooding closed Highway 81/92 through Osceola.
The minutes do not show the board adopting a formal schedule or target completion date for the 124th Road bridge repair; they record only that materials are available and that wet weather is delaying work. The board adjourned at 11:45 a.m.; the next meetings are set for July 16 and July 23, 2024.
