Le Sueur-Henderson board approves purchases, raises snack-cart fee and lowers graduation-credit requirement

Board members accepted a donations-and-grants resolution presented by administration that lists specific gifts to district programs: Aero Transport ($500 for Little Giants preschool); First Farmers & Merchants ($100 for Little Giants); Henderson Fire Department ($500 for Unified Bowling); Knights of Columbus ($750 for golf and $500 for track); Le Sueur Rotary ($500 for preschool); Bombgard Rose & Associates ($275 for preschool); Le Sueur Lions Club ($250 for preschool); and Henderson Lions Gaming ($500 for unified bowling). Board members thanked donors for supporting extracurricular and preschool programs.
In other action the board approved purchases identified on the agenda as over $10,000, including additional lunchroom tables and chairs to accommodate incoming middle/high students and repairs or replacement of failed air-conditioning compressors for the middle/high school. The motions passed by voice vote, 5–0.
The board also approved a change to snack-cart pricing. Finance committee members said the district currently charges $40 per student for the snack-cart program and is operating at a loss; the district opted to raise the fee to $75 per child (with an option to bill twice annually), a change the board approved 5–0.
On graduation requirements the board voted to reduce the district's social-studies/credit requirement to an intermediate level between the district's current 4.5 credits and the state-minimum 3.5 credits. The superintendent said the shift is intended to reduce low-enrollment course sections and align staffing needs after recent contract settlements; the board approved the adjustment 5–0.
