Planning commission approves new Crown Point Community Foundation building, 7‑0

Mary Nielson, president of the Crown Point Community Foundation, told the commission the foundation manages more than 365 permanent endowment funds and has awarded more than $21 million in grants over its history, and described a proposed 4,600‑square‑foot building as “more than an office building” and a community asset for donor and nonprofit convenings.
Architect Joseph De Senzo described material choices — antique‑look Hebron brick around the building, precast window sills and a tower element to give presence to the lobby. Planning staff said the project has engineering, fire, planning, public works and utilities approvals and noted tree board signoff. A commissioner praised the full‑brick elevation and said the building would be “here forever.”
Commissioner moved to approve site development plan 26‑30; a roll call vote recorded all seven members voting yes. The commission’s approval advances the project to final city and building permit steps.
The foundation’s representatives said they will continue coordination with staff on final details before construction.
