River Ridge leaders seek multi‑year plan after storm surge modeling shows major flood risk

Representatives from Pelican Sound and the River Ridge Community Development District described early resilience planning in response to increasing storm surge risk and asked the CDD to designate a Board representative and staff or engineering contact to assist.
Eric Long, PSGRC General Manager, outlined a proposed action plan for the next five to ten years and said the plan could include creation of an advisory/review panel and partnerships with county and state agencies. He presented a hypothetical scenario in which a 10‑ to 12‑foot storm surge associated with a Hurricane Milton scenario could flood an estimated 45–55% of the community, and he said addressing the issue could take a decade and require coordinated funding and multiagency work.
Board Chair Bob Schultz and staff authorized Mr. Long and Mr. Merrill to assist and authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to participate as needed. Counsel noted that Army Corps ideas discussed in neighboring counties could be considered should funding become available.
The Board did not adopt any binding policy or commit to specific funding at the meeting; rather, members agreed to participate in planning and coordination efforts and to report back with proposals for formal action.
