The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District governing board moved and seconded to approve the appointment of Nisha Mystery as the 2026-27 student board member elect. There were no public speakers on the item and the Chair called the vote; the presiding officer announced the motion carried.
Superintendent Saxs introduced Nisha Mystery to the board, noting her leadership roles at Rodriguez High School, involvement in Battle of the Books, debate and humanitarian clubs, and co-founding the Rodriguez Chess Club. Saxs recommended the board approve Nisha as the student trustee-elect and described her as a strong liaison between students and the board.
The superintendent then administered the oath of office. Nisha Mystery repeated the oath, beginning "I do solemnly swear ... that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California ... and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties which I'm about to enter." Afterward the board presented Nisha with a commemorative pin and applause.
Why it matters: The student trustee provides a formal student perspective as a nonvoting participant in board proceedings and will serve as a liaison between the student body and the governing board.
What's next: Nisha Mystery will assume student-trustee duties during the 26-27 school year and the board will administer the student preferential vote on subsequent agenda items as required by district procedure.
