The Cohasset City Council approved a $21,238.87 contract with Nelson Sanitation and Rental on March 23 for 2026 jetting and televising of the city's sanitary sewer system. Councilor Kevin Tinquist moved to accept the recommended, budgeted quote; Councilor Shannon Benolken seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The contract was presented as a budgeted, annual maintenance item; staff noted Nelson's quote was more detailed and the company has a stronger performance record than the other bidder. The council recorded the approval during the regular meeting after reviewing bids during the earlier work session.
In the same meeting the council approved several other routine actions. It hired Lyla Michels and Hannah Goodell as part‑time concession stand attendants at Portage Park from April 6 through Oct. 1, 2026, at $15.00 per hour (motion by Councilor Andy MacDonell, seconded by Councilor Kevin Tinquist; unanimous). The council also approved a $6,000 contribution for the July 4 fireworks display at Pokegama Golf Course (motion by Councilor Andy Haarklau, seconded by Councilor Andy MacDonell; unanimous). Council accepted the resignation of Firefighter Curtis Card, effective March 10, 2026 (motion by Councilor Shannon Benolken; unanimous), and approved Department of Natural Resources (DNR) grant resolution(s) as presented (motion by Councilor Andy MacDonell; unanimous).
The council approved the consent agenda, which included claims totaling $301,126.25 and multiple sets of minutes and acknowledgements, by unanimous vote. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
What happens next: the sewer contract will be implemented by Public Works as part of the city's annual maintenance program; other administrative items are effective per standard personnel and accounting processes.
