Following a detailed presentation from the police chief, the Dobbs Ferry Board of Trustees voted on June 23 to adopt an updated fee schedule for police special details designed to better reflect officer pay, benefits, vehicle wear-and-tear, and coordination time.
The chief told trustees the village's previous fee schedule was antiquated and that rising wages had put some details into a net loss for the village. He proposed a blended hourly rate for officers, a vehicle-use charge to account for idling and wear, and a flat coordination/oversight fee to compensate supervisors who manage details. The chief noted he consulted peers in neighboring villages while crafting the proposed schedule.
Trustees asked whether an emergency rate should apply and discussed the tradeoffs of an hourly versus a daily vehicle charge; the chief explained historical data migration and recordkeeping concerns were separate matters. After discussion the board agreed to adopt the schedule to avoid subsidizing many outside details.
The new schedule takes effect immediately upon adoption; staff will monitor revenues and return with periodic reviews.
