Britt City Council adopts FY2026 budget, approves $16,000 loan, pay changes and licenses

Mayor Jim Nelson called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Council member A. Weiss moved to approve the agenda, and council member A. Nelson seconded; the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
The council opened a public hearing on the proposed FY2026 budget at 6:01 p.m. and closed it at 6:02 p.m.; no members of the public spoke. The council then adopted Resolution #08-2025 to approve the full FY2026 budget and certify taxes. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by A. Weiss and seconded by A. Nelson; a roll-call vote recorded Weiss-Aye, Hildman-Aye, Nelson-Aye, Mosher-Aye and Peterson-Aye.
Following the budget action, the council approved a $16,000 revolving loan recommended by the Revolving Fund Loan Board. The motion was made by A. Nelson and seconded by L. Mosher and carried unanimously.
The council approved changes to the police department benefit package as recommended by the Personnel and Finance board (April 24, 2025). Those changes include shortening a contract term from five years to four years and establishing a flat on-call rate of $15 per hour. The motion to approve the PD package was made by T. Hildman and seconded by L. Mosher; the motion passed on a unanimous vote.
The Pool Assistant Manager pay rate was increased from $14 to $16 per hour on a motion by A. Weiss, seconded by D. Peterson; the council approved the wage change unanimously.
The council also approved several retail licenses: liquor and cigarette licenses for Britt Food Center (motion by A. Weiss, seconded by A. Nelson), a liquor license for the Dollar General store in Britt (motion by T. Hildman, seconded by A. Nelson), and a cigarette license for Casey’s Convenience Store (motion by A. Nelson, seconded by T. Hildman). Each motion passed with all members voting in favor.
Council member A. Nelson moved to adjourn; A. Weiss seconded and the meeting was adjourned following a unanimous vote.
