Board moves to executive session on abatement; Assessor mailed appeal letter and sought taxpayer conference

At 5:24 p.m. on July 10 the Berkley Board of Assessors voted to move into executive session to discuss an abatement and not return to open session. The motion was made by Lisa Tetreault and seconded by Jeanne Russo; the minutes record that the motion carried and that the board proceeded to executive session.
Assessor Gary Hoitt told the board that he had drafted a letter to the Appellate Tax Board outlining the Board of Assessors’ position, mailed by priority mail on July 1, 2024; the letter was recorded as arriving at the Appellate Tax Board on July 3. Hoitt also drafted and mailed a letter to a taxpayer whose abatement request was denied and said the taxpayer had requested a conference call to explore an amicable solution.
The board returned only for the meeting adjournment: Lisa Tetreault moved to adjourn, Jeanne Russo seconded, and a roll-call vote was recorded as unanimous. The meeting adjourned at 5:33 p.m. The minutes were prepared by Assessor Gary Hoitt.
