Council requires structural engineering plans, sets March 24 deadline for 296 McGran permit

He told the council he needs detailed foundation and joist designs from an engineer — not just a demolition plan or a general write‑up — so the city can confirm structural integrity before issuing permits. “I’m not going to permit until I get it,” Darren said, citing concerns about stairs falling and people potentially falling through floors.
Council members discussed phasing and timelines and agreed to ask the property’s architect to complete the structural submissions. The council set a target date of March 24 for submission of the required documents to the city building inspector to allow the permitting process to proceed.
The council emphasized that once the structural materials are delivered and inspected, plan review will identify additional items (fire separation, ADA, accessibility) relevant to final permits and occupancy.
